Ontario has introduced new changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, known as OINP, as part of a broader plan to redesign how the province manages immigration applications and responds to labour market needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The changes were first announced by the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program on March 16 and took effect on May 30, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

The amendments apply to Ontario Regulation 421\/17 under the Ontario Immigration Act and are designed to give Ontario more flexibility in how it manages applications, selects candidates, and responds to changing economic priorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

What This Means for Existing Applicants<\/b><\/p>\n

One of the most important points for applicants is that existing applications remain protected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications already submitted under the current OINP framework will continue to be assessed based on the eligibility requirements that were in effect when the application was received.<\/span><\/p>\n

This means applicants with pending OINP applications do not need to worry that the new rules will automatically change how their existing files are reviewed.<\/span><\/p>\n
